The ATKV School of Creative Writing of the North-West University (located on the Potchefstroom Campus) offers a variety of short writing courses to anyone wanting to take up creative writing or aiming to improve their creative writing skills. The only admission requirements are a writing talent and a passion for creative writing. The duration of such courses may be from one to five days and they may also be offered at venues outside Potchefstroom.

The annual Winter School for writers stretches over five days, with attention to three of the genres of prose, poetry, column writing, children’s and youth literature, et cetera. For aspiring romance writers, the annual Spring School is the appropriate event – for three days the art of writing love stories is discussed and practically demonstrated. A course for congregational writing is presented on a Saturday from time to time, focusing on the content and layout of congregational publications.

Furthermore, the School of Creative Writing annually offers at least four short courses for young writers at various venues in South Africa. Such "chancellor’s courses" are made possible by the NWU Chancellor’s Trust and are usually presented on a Friday and/or a Saturday.

Courses offered on demand are another possibility. You are welcome to approach us with such requests.
