Holtzhausen has been in higher education and research for the past 18 years. She teaches in marketing management, marketing communication, corporate communication and speech communication. Her research interests focus on corporate branding, identity, image and reputation management in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Holtzhausen has read numerous national and international conference papers, published both nationally and internationally and serves on review boards of academic journals. She currently supervises five MA and six PhD students. She is involved in various community projects and has served as a guest speaker on several occasions. She is an active member of the South African Communication Association (SACOMM), a senior member of the Academy of World Business, Marketing and Management Development (AWBMAMD) and is registered as a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner with the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA).
