Janelize Morelli was awarded the BMus and MMus degrees at North-West University. She has taught music in various settings ranging from pre-primary schools to FET colleges. Most recently Janelize taught at the St Andrew's School for Girls in Johannesburg. She taught girls ranging from Grade 5 to Grade 12, and was also the conductor of the school orchestras and director of the marimba bands.
As a researcher Janelize is interested in understanding community music practices through the lens of an ethic of care. She has presented papers relating to this interest at various national and international conferences. Janelize believes in the transformative potential of research, and as such, she is passionate about transformative and participatory approaches to research in the field of community music.
She completed her PhD in 2019 at the Steinhardt School for Culture, Education and Human Development at New York University under supervision of Prof David Elliott.
