History deals with the acts, thoughts and emotions of people within a societal context.
History can thus be defined as the study of recognisable acts of people and more specifically, those acts that are of value to society. History is not studied only because of the past, but to focus a better understanding and judgement of modern times. History, as a people-orientated science, therefore has meaningful human behaviour within a society in its sights. Because man is compelling, complex and unpredictable, the practice of history is also alive, exciting and enjoyable.
