Aspects that are dealt with in this short course include graphic design elements principles, conceptualisation skills, an introduction to typography, and basic applicable computer skills in Adobe Illustrator CC in visual communications projects that form a mini portfolio.

Admission Requirements & Materials

The admission requirement for this short course is NQF Level 4 education (matriculation or equivalent) as well as basic computer skills. Participants are highly advised to also enrol for the Creativity Centre's short course in Adobe Design Software to assist in the execution of graphic design projects on the appropriate Adobe software programs, in particular with regard to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CC. We work on the Adobe programmes in our labs and participants only have to have an Adobe log-in to access our software, but personal access to the Adobe software programs Photoshop and Illustrator is necessary in the event of online teaching/learning, and will further enhance the participants' skill extension. Backing up of work is essential, and a memory stick or flash drive is recommended for portability of work where necessary.
