History

Broadly, History involves the study of the past and its impact on the present and aspirations for the future. This programme enables a student to conduct in-depth research into how our past shapes our present and how our present shapes our future. A student will also be able to understand how the present is shaped by versions of the past.

Why study History?

History deals with the acts, thoughts and emotions of people in a societal context. History is not studied only because of the past, but to obtain a better understanding and judgement of modern times. History, as a people-orientated science, therefore has meaningful human behaviour in a society in its sights. Because man is compelling, complex and unpredictable, the practice of history is also alive, exciting and enjoyable.
