Introduction to Music Research

Introduction to Music Research

The purpose of this module is to help students improve their basic reading and writing skills, as well as their ability to access and interpret sources so that their academic writing skills can be developed. The major themes involve analysing, evaluating and critically discussing a text, as well as interpreting it and writing it in their own words, while maintaining the original meaning. They will develop the skill to paraphrase existing statements and also use the appropriate methods of quoting from a text and how to write a reference list. They will be guided to avoid plagiarism and to work independently on a research report.

This module fits into the overall programme for which they are enrolled because it prepares them for writing academic essays and reports in all their other modules.
