Diploma in Music

The Diploma in Music is a three-year full-time study programme for prospective students with no or little formal musical training. It starts with the rudiments of music and moves towards proficiency at Grade 3 level.

Entry Requirements

  • Completed Matric / National Senior Certificate with an endorsement for diploma study
  • APS of at least 18
  • At least 50% (level 4) for English in Grade 12
  • Successful completion of a language proficiency test, a musical aptitude test and an audition
  • NEW from 2021: A laptop or equivalent device to participate in learning and assessment activities

BA Music & Society

The BA Music & Society is a three-year full-time programme for prospective students with some formal musical training and exemption for degree study. It focuses on music education and community music.

Entry Requirements

  • Completed Matric / National Senior Certificate with an endorsement for degree study, and an APS of at least 21, and at least 50% (level 4) for English in Grade 12
    OR
    A diploma in music or an equivalent qualification in which the modules for the final year have been passed with an average of at least 60%
  • Successful completion of a practical audition (Grade 3 standard), a theoretical placement test (Grade 2 standard), and a language proficiency test
  • NEW from 2021: A laptop or equivalent device to participate in learning and assessment activities

BMus

The BMus is a four-year full-time professional degree programme for prospective students with extensive formal musical training and exemption for degree study. It offers specialization from the 3rd year in Performance, Methodology, Musicology, Music Education, Community Music, Music Technology, Music Theory or Composition.

  • APS of at least 24
