Music Technology is currently offered as a second-year module in the BA Music and Society programme, and as two third-year modules in the BMus programme. These modules largely consist of learning software skills, which include notation skills in Sibelius and/or Finale, song composition in Garage Band, and simple digital audio recording, editing and video synchronization in Pro Tools (the latter only in the BMus programme).
Study units in technology for music education include the making of instructional vlogs with computer screen capturing software, and the making of simple animated videos with an original soundtrack. Academic study units focus on the Theory of Sound, the critical evaluation of texts on technology for music education, and the Aesthetics of Electronic Music (the latter again only in the BMus programme).
The Music Technology room is equipped with eight Apple Mac computers with double screens and Korg MIDI keyboards. Although we have studio facilities available, we do not currently offer courses in sound engineering, DJ-ing, etc.
