Dean's Welcome

Welcome to all students, parents, colleagues and partners visiting the faculty's web page.

Thank you for your interest in the Faculty of Humanities at the NWU, and we hope that we can soon welcome you to the Humanities family.

The Faculty of Humanities is committed to providing a high-quality education that nurtures students in a critical understanding of and in interpreting human experience. Our approach to teaching, learning, research and engagement with the community is guided by the core strategic values of the University, namely to provide academic excellence through social justice.

The faculty's programmes are designed to provide students with critical intellectual thinking skills and an engaged, ethical learning experience rooted in Africa for global participation and appreciation and respect for diversity. The faculty offers a unique, research-led experience across a broad range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.

Our faculty has a presence on all three sites of delivery of the NWU, namely Potchefstroom, Vanderbijlpark and Mahikeng. Moreover, we pride ourselves that, across the three campuses, students are educated by outstanding, diverse staff who are leaders in their fields.

This is your chance to understand the cultures and traditions that make our world a rich and fascinating place. Your time spent with the faculty creates a tremendous opportunity to learn about the world and its meanings and to engage with some of the most profound questions that human beings face – questions about the past, in the present, and for the future.  We are confident that our programmes will comply with your professional and scientific aspirations.

Kind regards
Prof Dumi Moyo
Executive Dean: Faculty of Humanities
